about the chef
Born and raised in the heart of Texas, Executive Chef Josh Kautz brings a lifelong passion for food, creativity, and hospitality to Heath Golf & Yacht Club. Originally from the small Panhandle town of Stratford, Josh's culinary journey began long before he stepped into a professional kitchen.
His passion for the culinary arts first took shape in high school while serving on the Texas Pork Producers Junior Board of Directors. After initially pursuing music at The University of Texas at Austin, Josh followed his love of cooking to the prestigious Texas Culinary Academy, where he graduated with top honors in 2003.
Throughout his career, Josh has built an impressive culinary background, working in distinguished venues including the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and the Hilton Bella Harbor Hotel. His experience ranges from intimate fine-dining experiences to large-scale galas, with the honor of serving former U.S. Presidents, celebrities, and distinguished guests.
As Executive Chef at Heath Golf & Yacht Club, Josh combines his classical culinary training with his Texas roots to create menus that are both approachable and memorable. From seasonal menu creations and everyday dining to weddings, tournaments, and special celebrations, he takes pride in delivering exceptional food and experiences for the club's members and guests.
Josh believes that great food begins long before the first bite. His philosophy, "You eat with your eyes before you eat with your mouth," reflects his attention to presentation, quality, and the little details that turn a good meal into a memorable one. Just as important to him is building a strong culinary team, encouraging creativity, and continually finding ways to elevate the dining experience.
Outside the kitchen, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife, Meredith, whom he met in 2014, and their son, Avery. The family calls Rowlett, Texas, home. When he's not creating something in the kitchen, Josh can usually be found working on one of his many projects, raising reptiles and exotic fish, refinishing furniture, or playing the drums—much to the amusement of his neighbors.
For Josh, being a chef is about more than preparing great food. It's about bringing people together, creating lasting memories, and making Heath Golf & Yacht Club a place where members and their families feel right at home.
